Kuala Lumpur - DRB-Hicom  signed yesterday a a collaboration and licensing agreement with Volkswagen about the assembly of vehicles in Malaysia. The collaboration between both companies represents an investment of almost RM1 billion (app. 240Mio EURO). Under the agreement, DRB-Hicom will assemble the Passat, Polo and Jetta models of Volkswagen at its plant in Pekan, Pahang.

DRB-Hicom Managing Director  Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil has expressed interest to distribute Volkswagen AG (VWAG)’s vehicles in the country.

Kuala Lumpur – VW and Drb-Hicom are signing the agreement for the assembly and distribution of different VW models in Malaysia on Tuesday. Premier Minister Najib Razak supposed to attend the signing ceremony as informed by DRB-Hicom.

VW is represented in the major markets in Asia (China and India) but not yet in Southeast Asia, this is one of the steps to close this gap. In the past VW already negotiated with the national carmaker PROTON about a cooperation but without success.
