Personal Impact & Inspiring Leadership

“If you want to know why your people are not performing well,
step up to the mirror and take a peek.”
– Dr. Ken Blanchard

Leadership can be defined as influence, that is, the art of influencing people just so they will strive willingly and enthusiastically toward the achievement of common goals. Ideally, people should be encouraged to develop, not only a willingness to work, but also a willingness to work with zeal and confidence.

In other words, it is the willingness of other people to follow that makes a person a leader.  People tend to follow those whom they see as providing a means of achieving their own desires, wants and needs. Leadership and motivation are closely interconnected.  By understanding motivation, one can appreciate better what people want and why they act as they do.  Also, leaders may not only respond to subordinates’ motivations but also arouse or dampen them by means of the organizational climate they develop. Both these factors are as important to leadership as they are to management.

Most of the times, it has been observed that, despite possessing leadership skills, a person cannot flourish.  This inability to come out in flying colors stems from the fact that the person is not conversant with the subtle techniques that help bring out the leader in him.

Many aspiring individuals may at times find that their efforts are undermined despite their best efforts.  This is due to the fact that the individual lacks the motivation to overcome his obstacles.  A proper and suitable training in leadership skills often helps one to overcome these barriers.

Leadership training is of paramount importance to those who aspire to be good leaders and stand tall among others.  The objectives are to:

  • sharpen communication skills, and other qualities that are keys to becoming a successful and confident leader.
  • develop influencing skills and linguistics.
  • enhance self-management, personal performance and progress.
  • learn the art of giving feedback and motivating others.
